Tomatoes are one of the easiest and best
vegetables (fruits) to grow - they produce
beautiful tomatoes for a long time, and the green
tomatoes can be used in many different ways, not
just fried.

Tomatoes originated in the Andean regions of North
and Central America, and were not introduced to
Europe until the first part of the 1500's. For
quite a while the Tomato plant was considered
decoration only as the people of the time thought
it was poisonous. The Italians were the first
Europeans to use this great plant as a food source.

Plant in moist but well drained soil - they love
it against a wall, and need lots of sun. There are
many different varieties - my favorite is Roma
tomatoes - and the plants do great in container as
well as indoors (as long as there is a lot of sun
or light).

Put the plants closer together for a faster
harvest, or further apart for larger fruit (10 -
16 inches, or 24" apart for larger fruit).

Do not over water, as it will reduce the flavor of
the tomato.

More info on this wonderful plant will be posted
soon!
